BANKSIA/re leaf EXHIBITION
Banksias demonstrate strong connection to the land and their leaves symbolise strength, individuality and hope.
The exhibition of ceramic works extends beyond the representation of the beauty and variety of the leaves of a wide range of Banksias in the Australian National Botanic Gardens, to the symbolic use and personal and historic references.

WORKSHOP 1 BANKSIA/re leaf
In this workshop participants will
1.be introduced to bas relief style carving techniques,
2. apply carving techniques to create surface decoration on a vessel, based on plant forms from the Australian National Botanic Gardens,
3. use plants with personal or historical significance.
Source material will be examples of dried leaves, photographs, historical information, and the Banksia Gardens just outside the workshop space. You are encourgaed to bring your own reference materials (no living or dried plants)
Pre-thrown leather hard clay vessels will be provided .
The carved vessels will be fired and available for collection at a later date

Workshop 2 BANKSIA/re leaf
The tile decorating workshop includes two clay surface embellishment techniques: relief carving and stamping. These techniques will be used to create imagery based on Banksia plant leaves. The tiles will be pre-made by the artist/facilitator and ready for surface embellishment in the workshop. The tiles will be fired and available for collection at a later date.

Workshop 3 BANKSIA/Re leaf
The tile workshop includes two techniques: painting and sgraffito (scratching through). These techniques will be used to create imagery based on Banksia plant leaves. The tiles will be pre-made by the artist/facilitator and ready for surface embellishment. The tiles will be fired and available for collection at a later date.
